Compressors are used in gas turbine fuel booster applications for compressing natural gas from various sources to constant discharge pressures, such as those required by natural gas fired combustion turbine-generators for generating electricity. The fuel gas booster compressors ensure continuous supply of fuel gas at specified discharge pressures to the turbine-generators, where the volume of fuel gas required is dictated by the electric power demand on the system. Many of the new natural gas fired power plants use combined-cycle units, where each unit has a gas turbine and a steam unit, all in one. The waste heat from the gas-turbine process is directed towards generating steam, which is then used to generate electricity much like a steam unit.
